Crew Profile

Captain: Chris Thomson

Born and bred on the South Coast of England, Chris learned to sail from a very early age, going on to race dinghies competitively around Europe and taking family sailing holidays around the Greek Islands. Life on the water is in his blood and whether it’s spending a weekend on the family yacht, “Bright Oyster” or taking to the waves windsurfing, there’s nothing he likes more than to get out in the elements during his time off. And when the conditions aren’t quite right for any of the above, then Chris is more than likely to be enjoying a round on the local golf course or a game of squash. Having worked in a marina during weekends at college, Chris’s professional yachting career officially began at the age of eighteen when he joined his first yacht as a deckhand. A year and a half later, he returned home to start his BSC in Marine Technology and after completion in 2005, went straight back to yachting. Destined to work on yachts long term, Chris continued his studies to obtain an ‘MCA Master of Yachts up to 3000GT License’. Having lost count of the times he has crossed the Atlantic, Chris has cruised both the Mediterranean and Caribbean extensively, as well as the Baltic, Indian Ocean and West and East Coasts of the United States. Chris’s extensive knowledge and experience mean that he can easily recommend many exciting destinations. His passion for the water reinforces his desire to see others enjoying the pleasure of a holiday at sea. You can be guaranteed that Chris will put his all into making your stay on board LADY JOY the holiday of a lifetime.

Chief Engineer (Rotating): Brian Bell

Brian comes to LADY JOY well equipped with over sixteen years of yachting experience. Originally from New Orleans, he traveled the United States with a military family and thus his desire for discovering new places was ignited. Throughout his yachting career, Brian has traversed nearly every ocean on the planet including the Pacific, Mediterranean, Caribbean and the Aegean. In contrast to his many hours spent at sea, Brian’s spare time is enjoyed with recreational activities in the sky, as he is both an accomplished pilot and avid kite surfer. You can rest assured that during your time on board LADY JOY, the vessel is in the hands of an experienced and capable engineer.

Captain (Rotating): Doung Pender

Doug grew up in the beautiful northwest coast of the United States and as a child, sailed throughout Puget Sound and the coast of Latin America on his family’s live aboard sailboat. Consequently, a career in yachting was a natural progression for him! With over fifteen years of experience as an officer and captain aboard both private and charter yachts, Doug has sailed extensively throughout many yachting destinations throughout the world. He also has acquired a comprehensive knowledge of several adventurous cruising locations including Central and South America, the Eastern Caribbean, Galapagos and the South Pacific. Bringing confidence, energy, enthusiasm and an ability to motivate and support others, Doug’s leadership inspires a happy, hard working crew who offer our guests the highest standard of hospitality on board LADY JOY.

She is never one to say no to a challenge and will stop at nothing to keep others smiling. Marguerite is a dedicated hard worker, but also knows how to have fun, and these qualities have enabled her to swiftly rise to the rank of First Officer. Her love of outdoor sports, including skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving is infectious. Marguerite is an avid wakeboarder and will happily coach you until you are looking like a pro, and she will ensure that your holiday on board LADY JOY is one you will never forget.

During his travels, he realized that his love for the water would lead him to a yachting career. Returning to England, Dylan obtained the appropriate qualifications necessary to work on a yacht and is continuing his studies to further his career. He received most of his diplomas by March 2015 and joined LADY JOY soon afterwards. A well-rounded sport enthusiast, Dylan enjoys all water sports, as well as snowboarding and motorbike riding. He is very excited to share his passion with the guests, both in the water and on land.

As a well-practiced yogi and wellness enthusiast, she is eager to share her knowledge on health and nutrition with others. After completing her degree, Nicole decided to fulfill her dream of traveling the world. Nicole’s background and passion for hospitality made yachting an obvious next step. Her fervor in life is to help others, and she is happiest when making people smile. Nicole loves immersing herself in new cultures and for the past few years has lived abroad in Australia as well as Brazil, where she taught English. Her positive outlook and zest for life are contagious, putting guests at ease so they can truly relax and savor their time on board LADY JOY. Making your vacation as comfortable and personalized as possible is her top priority, ensuring that your time spent on board will never be forgotten.

Stewardess: LeAnn Weckbacher

LeeAnn was raised in Orlando, Florida. After graduating high school, she trained as a barista and then entered the yachting industry. Her enthusiasm and dedication are among her signature traits, ensuring that our guests receive an exceptional level of service on board LADY JOY. LeeAnn’s other passions include choreography, art and design.

Stewardess: Sage Fell

Sage was born in Portland, Oregon in the United States and moved with her family to South Africa at age six, where she was raised and educated. She gained entry to the respected University of Cape Town where she studied Environmental and Geographical Science. Being required to be self-funding, the motivation for finding a part time vocation was high. While studying she secured waitressing work in a demanding environment, which fostered a keen understanding of service. Her passion for service has led her to pursuing a career in yachting and she is excited be a part of the LADY JOY team.

Deck/ Engineer: Junior Sang

Dylan was born in Cape Town, South Africa, but grew up in Bahrain, which he now calls home. At age thirteen, he moved to England to complete his school studies abroad. After graduating, Dylan found he was eager to explore the world, and decided to go on a six month journey throughout Europe. During his travels, he realized that his love for the water would lead him into a yachting career. Returning to England, Dylan obtained the appropriate qualifications necessary to work on a yacht and is determined to work his way up the career ladder. He received his initial maritime qualifications in March 2015 and joined LADY JOY soon afterwards. Dylan loves sports, whether they are in or out of the water, and he brings his gymnastic expertise to the water on LADY JOY. Very passionate about his job and working in the yachting environment, he is excited to share his enthusiasm with guests on the deck, on the sand or in the water!

Todd Massel: Deckhand

A displaced Canadian, Todd grew up near Toronto, Ontario but has lived in many places around the world, including Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Western Canada. His love for the outdoors has taken him from living in the ski town of Whistler in Western Canada to Indonesia. There, he was a SCUBA instructor, where turtle sightings are a daily occurrence. Diving is his passion, whether it is deep shipwrecks, diving with whale sharks and manta rays, heavy current drift dives, or just a relaxing coral exploration, Todd just can’t get enough. He came to yachting because of his love of the water, and is ready to share his knowledge to make your experience on board LADY JOY one to remember forever.

Chief Engineer (Rotating): Morgan Gregorie

Morgan’s father was an engineer in the merchant navy so he spent his spare time as a child playing with tools more than toys. Morgan studied as a heavy machinery and systems engineer in his home town of Bergerac, France where wine growing is a prime industry. He first worked overseas in Sonoma valley at age nineteen during a harvest season. Returning to Europe, Morgan travelled to Italy, France, Spain and Germany upgrading cutting edge grape harvesters. He later took his mechanical skills to Australia where he worked on machinery for high output livestock farming. His next move was to South America overseeing a fleet of earth moving machinery used for building dams. Upon returning to Europe, Morgan was introduced to the marine industry in Holland, where he worked as a propulsion engineer. He was sent all over the globe and eventually contracted on a yacht in Malta, only to be offered a permanent job on board. Et voilà, nine years, 40000 miles, three equator crossings later, Morgan brings a wealth of experience to LADY JOY.
